Views on Key Issues:
EDUCATION
A good educational system is extremely important, not just to the
students, but to the community, the state and the nation. It is the
backbone of our economic success and the quality of life we have come to
expect. We need a strong voice in Topeka who understands just how
important education is to this community and who can articulate the needs
of the 21st century educational system. My priority is to
develop a statewide funding formula that allows Johnson County Schools to
maintain their excellence.
BUSINESS
To be pro-business means to support the infrastructure that continues
to attract top quality businesses with high paying jobs. Infrastructure
includes good transportation and water systems, good parks, and fire and
police systems. Infrastructure also includes top quality affordable
schools, kindergarten through college. Being pro-business also means
keeping the businesses we have and attracting even more top quality
business to the area like those targeted with the bioscience initiative.
My priorities will be to support the bioscience initiatives and to see
that taxing authority and therefore accountability and other decision
making is maintained at the local level.
BUILDING COALITIONS
I have had experience as a locally elected official working with a
great cross-section of people with diverse opinions and priorities over
the last eight years to achieve common goals. I have listened to parents,
teachers, taxpayers, fellow board members and business owners and worked
hard to make sure that every voice is heard. As your representative I will
continue to fight for the ideas and issues that are important to us here
in Johnson County and spend the time necessary to build a coalition with
others in the state. My campaign is primarily funded with personal
contributions and my votes will be determined by what is best for this
community and not by special interests.
